Pokémon Rumble U, the latest entry in the Pokémon Rumble franchise, is heading to the Wii U this fall. The gameplay in the series involves direct control over various Pokémon toys, which can perform unique attacks against other Pokémon toys who can then be recruited and used in the game.
The latest entry in the series will include all of the current generations of Pokémon, essentially 1-649. The story involves several Pokémon Toys, who are in the process of being shipped to a toy store. Somehow or another, the toys end up being dropped into a river, and have to get back to the store while encountering various enemy Pokémon as they continue their quest. The game can be played both alone and with up to 4 friends.
Interestingly, this game will include a Skylander-like system where separate NFC figures — currently based off of about 18 Pokémon — can be used to access new Pokémon in game. Coins that are earned in-game can be used to get various special abilities for these figures, which can store in-game data, and be used on other systems. These will be optional and will sell for $3.99 each.
Pokémon Rumble U will be released on August 29, and will retail for $17.99 as an eShop only title.
