During this morning’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced that Earthbound will be appearing stateside in a Virtual Console release. The news comes hot on the heels of republication rumors which were aswirl just a few short months ago. Earthbound was originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment system in 1995, on the brink of the N64′s release. The game was developed under the collaborative effort of Nintendo, Ape, and Hal Laboratory, now most popularly known for their work on the Super Smash Bros. franchise. The adventure is as well-polished an RPG as it is a whacky world-wandering adventure, and we just can’t wait until it appears in the states. No news yet on the game’s release, but 8-bit will be sure to bring more news as it comes.
