Oftentimes, gamers look back on the 9os with the utmost nostalgic of lenses. The 16-and-32-bit era of gaming was — debatably — one of the most loyally followed and fought for dynasties in our last two decades on the home console. Super Nintendo, or Sega Genesis. Have you heard “Juicy?” How about Team Teamwork’s whole album? Or perhaps modern art? The rivalry’s there, but more often than not, we’re inclined to name the Super Nintendo supreme.
But if you’ll take an honest shot at remembrance — sans lenses — you’ll come to find that the Sega Genesis was effing rad. It had kickass exclusives, blood and guts, and an opulence of racy ads. So celebrate the underdog, and check out 20 awesome Genesis Greats.
For our younger readers who may be confused by the layout of our graphic, allow me to explain for a short moment. Graphics, ads, or text of any kind was impossible to read in the 1990s without the proper context: squiggly neon lines and triangles, followed by splotchy layers of more brightly colored fun (by virtue of the Saved by the Bell café, or retro Taco Bell wallpaper).
And there you have it. 20 awesome Sega Genesis titles fully worth your time and hard-earned cash. If you’ve got Genesis favorites of your own, we’d love to hear from you in the comments section below.
