The Year of 2013 has brought us some true gems in games. There have been games that redeem a series and games that create new genres! Here 8-bit talks about it’s favorite games from the past year.

5. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Black Flag stands out as a game capable of redeeming its predecessor. As the Assassin’s Creed series continues, we hope to have more unique and well done installments such as Black Flag. Not only a good redeemer of the series, also a great pirate game in general. This game set’s itself aside as a game to look towards when making future games.

4. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is a great handheld on top of being a phenomenal addition to the Zelda series. The parallels are truly stunning, the game excels in narrative and game play. Along with being a truly interesting game, it’s long enough to call hours of fun.

3. Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Hearthstone may only be in beta, but it’s a great game to kill some time with, and insanely addictive. Not to mention it’s one of those games you actually need to think with. Not one of those mindless games that you spend all your time on, I’m looking at you Bloons, you actually need your brain to play. And despite its intellectual nature, Hearthstone is super easy to pick up. Though, I’m warning you right now this game is addictive!

2. The Stanley Parable

The Stanley Parable creates a whole new genre. Perhaps we can call it a choice genre? This game truly stands as a unique experience, with its own special brand of humor. Playing mind games and making choices, or should you just follow the rules?

1. BioShock Infinite

BioShock Infinite is a no brainier. Beautiful graphics, game play, AND narrative? That’s a perfect combination to us over here at 8-bit. Not to mention the intense battles or brain teasing surprises. This mind melting game lands itself a number one spot. To get more theory and love for the game, check out our spoilercast and review!
